In a recent announcement, Jacqui Smith the Home Secretary has said that the North West city of Manchester will by the trial for ID cards.  It seems the Government is intent of pressing ahead with this unpopular scheme.

Just to set the record; I am against ID cards on a matter of civil liberty principal and on a practical level.  The £5 billion scheme would not work; would create another level of criminal activity; is not safe – remember the Child Benefit data scandal and is an unjust intrusion on our lives.

I’d much prefer our boarders to be more secure and the £5 billion spent of fight crime, on educating children, treating the sick or paying back some of the huge debt Labour have got us in.
