Few of us could not have been moved by the scenes last week outside the High Court where a ruling that the Government’s treatment of the Gurkhas was unlawful. Gurkhas have had a 200 year plus association fighting with and for Britain. They give their lives willing and fight ferociously, from the 1st Afghan War, in Burma during the Second World War, the Falklands and even now are engaged on active duty.
However, despite this brave history of service to Great Britain, they have been unable to settle here in their retirement. The High Court over turned this. The campaign now moves on. The Government is now being asked not to appeal against the decision and to work out the details to allow settlement.
Joanna Lumley, a long term campaigner and friend of the Gurkhas, has set up a website asking for online petitions, click here, to add your name.
