I joined many of my colleagues on Saturday to litter pick the beach and dunes at around Beach Terrace cafe for a couple of hours on Saturday morning.  We were supported by the Council, who provided litter pickers and the beach patrol vehicle to pick up the bags and rubbish.

Protecting the Dunes is important for us all.

Protecting the Dunes is important for us all.

This is not a cynical stunt, or picking up the slack from the council, but a real attempted to make the beach cleaner and the dunes more healthy.  Mechanical litter picks can destroy the dune formation.  And manual, just costs too much, so this kind of volunteer help makes a huge difference.  The Mayor (without chains) lent a hand as did many local residents and the Ribble Estuary Group.

Hats off to Cllr’s. John Coombes and Cheryl Little for organising this Conservative event.
