The Conservative Party has announced a practical plan to tackle fuel poverty.  Many low earners rely on a Post Office Card Account as their only form bank account.  These accounts don’t allow for direct debit payments.  By simply reforming the accounts to allow direct debit payments many low earners can get the direct debit discount offered by utility companies.  Not only will this save money for people who may struggle with their fuel bills, it will also generate transactions for the Post Office, making the Post Office more viable.

I think this is a great solution to help lighten the burden of the cost of living that has spiraled out of control under Gordon Brown and New Labour.  It’s time for a change.
