It has been revealed that plans are about to be published to build on land between Mowbreck Lane and Fleetwood Road playing fields in Wesham. The site, much loved by local people, has been described by local councillor Simon Renwick as ‘one of the last green lungs for Wesham’.

The land is owned by a company called Metacre. In 2003, Metacre worked with Lancashire County Council over the Lancashire Structure Plan and were included by the County Council as a participant in the debate over housing strategy.

Cllr. Renwick said: “Following calls to the Planning Manager at Fylde, I have discovered that a formal planning application is expected any week now. Clearly Metacre, as the land owner, have been playing a very long game and, only now, are we learning of their hopes for this land.

“Anyone who knows Wesham and our wider rural communities will know that the last thing we need are yet more houses on Greenfield sites. Houses which are too expensive for most local people; which can’t be reached unless you have a car and which destroy forever our beautiful countryside should not be given approval.”
